2008 Meeting Dates

The Illawarra Birth Choices group meets monthly, on alternate wednesdays and fridays. Our meetings are friendly gatherings, and an opportunity to find out more about your options for Maternity Care in the Illawarra. Kids are ofcourse very welcome.

Topic: Natural pain relief in labour- how to have a drug free birth

17th October, Cordeaux Heights (Amanda T's)
Topic: How to choose the right kind of maternity care. Bring your thoughts on how to educate yourself or others about choices in childbirth.

19th November- Mt Ousley (Lisa D's)
Topic: How do our children make us grow? Bring you "leaf" of wisdom to add to the tree of life with children

August Meeting

At our August meeting, we discussed new arrivals and how to keep everyone happy, especially older siblings. Lots of useful tips were shared.

At our May gathering we discussed Siblings At Birth.

Did we have our children present at the birth?
How did we prepare the children?
What plans did we have in place?
How did it all work out on the day?

Many experiences were shared of having (or not) siblings at birth. Some of us had children witnessing the birth of the baby - even in the birth pool with mum. For others, our children were nearby, in another room. Each of our children had different perspectives on how involved they wanted to be, and how they reacted on the day. It was great hearing about the different experiences, and what worked best for each of us.

Campaign for Public Funded Homebirth

- Letter writing to MP's - re: Medicare Funding for Midwives. We discussed the replies we have received from the Health Minister's Dept and the next step.
